🧘 The flavour of emotions

Hello everyone,

Oftentimes, we find ourselves wrapped up in emotions before we have time to react.

It’s almost like waking up in a straightjacket without having time to put it on or take it off.

We just wake up confined to this jacket we can’t get off.

Most of the time, we don’t even try to take it off, we just sit in it and marinate.

So the same goes for our emotions. We wake up, feel how we feel and move through our entire day feeling that way.

But imagine if you could consciously decide what emotions you were going to experience every day.

Imagine if you could decide what your day would look like.

Would you decide to live a life of negative emotions or positive emotions?

I think most of us would choose the latter.

Think about your morning this morning. How did you feel when you woke up and how long did that feeling linger?

Did it build up into something more? Did you dismiss it and choose another feeling?

If you would like to make positive emotion your foundation, try meditation.

Starting your day from stillness will give you the space you need to decide what emotions you’re going to engage with for that day.

It will give you the opportunity to step back from emotions you may have woken up in and consciously choose the emotions you want to live through.

So, by developing your skills of inner observation, you will become more and more free.

Here’s a meditation technique that changed my life:

  • Close your eyes and focus your eyes between your eyebrows.

  • Breathe in and out through your nose only.

  • Drop your awareness into your heart and rest.

  • Notice your entire body and see if you can release any tension.

  • Notice how your breath becomes more subtle and slow.

  • See if you notice the ease that develops over time.

With practice that meditation technique will give you the internal distance required to consciously choose your emotions.

The emotions that day were strong and compelling,

Although we ran, they caught us quick

It wasn’t until I looked within

That I found the trick.

Observing them, manipulating you

Will ward them off, giving you freedom too

So no longer get pulled

But know your own path

Emotions are there
